The Berlin correspondent of the United Press says it is ■ officially, announced by .the .Germans that Warsaw has capitulated unconditionally. It is officially announced m Berlin that the commander of the defending Warsaw garrison had offered to surrender and General Blackowitz nad been commissioned to negotiate. The German Embassy in Washington announced that it had received official information that Warsaw capitulated at 10.30 a m., Warsaw time. An earlier Paris report had quoted a Polish transcontinental press message from Warsaw stating that both Warsaw and the Modlin fortress “Continued to defend themselves, despite violent German attacks. Warsaw reported that carrying out the threat to reduce the city to ruins, the Germans intensified the artillery and air bombardment of the capital. “We are now continuously raided by 200 aeroplanes and shelled by heavy artillery,” said the Warsaw wireless last night. Hundreds of incendiary bombs were dropped, causing over 50 fires which were difficult to fight owing to the scarcity of water. The food situation was also difficult. Horses killed in the streets by German shells were immediately cut up and distributed for consumption.

A report from Brussels states, that the Rumanian Government has permitted the President of Poland, M. Moscicki, to go to Paris where the formation of a new Polish Ministry is mooted.

The Moscow correspondent of the British United Press says that a radio announced that the Red Army had reached Zamose, Osoweic, Chelm and Sambor. An Independent Cable Service message from Moscow quotes a bulletin from the Soviet Army commander indicating .that the Soviet troops to-day were 35 kilometres south-west of Bialystok and 40 miles south-west of Drogobich. The Russians claimed to have captured 36,500 prisoners.
