SCOUT NOTES
PREPARING FOR XMAS PROPOSED OA.MP By “Scoutcr” The town troops and packs arc still carrying on with their usual work and are looking forward to-the Christmas camp, which will take the place of the postponed jamboree camp. A visit was paid by the district cubmaster to the Mangapapa Pack last Saturday afternoon, when there were 18 Cubs present. Much useful test work was done during the afternoon and J. Sc'hnelling passed his test for first star. Jim Gordon, Mervyn Dolman and Dick Graham passed their lenderpad, but will not be invested until they have their caps and scarves. A game of cricket was played during the afterno'on. Scouts S. Candy and D. Steed assisted at the meeting. The Scouts of the three town groups are still working hard on proficiency badge work, and soon will be ready for the big presentation night. Last Monday evening the local Scouters and members ol' the Scout executive farewelled their acting commissioner, Major A. Blackburn, who had joined up for service. Mr. H. Holmes, chairman of the executive, in a brief but appropriate speech cn behalf of the association, wished Mr. Blackburn a safe trip and a speedy return. Other speakers were Mr. F. Westeott, district secretary, Mr. T. D. Baker, district scoutcr, and Mr. A. Williams, sea scoutmaster. There will not be a court of honour at the Y.M.C.A. this evening.
