Women’s Christian Temperance Union

There was a good attendance of members at the monthly meeting of the Gisborne branch of the Women’s Christian. Temperance Union, held in the Bright Street Methodist Sunday School on Tuesday afternoon. In the absence of the president, Mrs. W. E. Goffe, the chair was taken by Mrs. Foote.

The devotional exercises were conducted by Mrs. Thomas, Mrs. Walker acting as accompanist. A short article, “Defending Our Girls,” was read by Mrs. Foote, and Mrs. Thomas contributed the leading article from The White Ribbon, the official organ of the union, entitled “The Commonwealth of Nations.” Regret was expressed at the absence of the secretary, Mrs. Wallen, owing to illness in the family.

Afternoon tea was served by Mesdames Stockman and Mclntosh.
