VITAL FACTOR IN WAR

ALLIES’ SHARE OF PETROI, POSITION IN DOMINION “It is obvious that petrol is one of the vital factors in war to-day,” stated Mr. 11. J. Knight, secretary of the New Zealand Road' Transport Alliance, when speaking at a meeting of carriers in Hamilton. He explained that it had been said by an eminent scientist that 75 per cent ef the oil supplies in the world were in the hands of Britain and her Allies, while Germany could only call on 25 per cent. Petrol, the scientist had added, would win the war for the Allies. Mr. Knight said tile present state of the petrol restrictions in New Zealand could be regarded as fairly permanent provided reasonable economy was shown. He considered that if the supplies were cut down, the transport industry, which was performing a public service, would be the last to suffer.
