Last Night’s Forecast
General Situation: A depression is located to the north-cast of the North Island, while an anti-cyclone over the Tasman Sea is extending on to the South Island. Pressure is falling, however, over eastern Australia. Forecast: Winds becoming light and variable over much of the South Island,, elsewhere fresh southerlies prevailing but later tending to southwesterly and gradually decreasing except along the east coast of the North Island. Seas: In New Zealand waters, rather rough to rough north of Kaikoura and Wanganui; slight to moderate elsewhere. Eastern Tasman Sea: Moderate southerly winds at first bur, a change to northerlies advancing across the southern portion; seas, moderate. Weather: For the most part fair; cloudy to overcast, however, in the eastern districts from Canterbury to the Bay of Plenty, with intermittent rain, but conditions improving from the south; occasional passing showers also in the Auckland Peninsula; cool temperatures. To-Day’s North Island Report Blue skies were reported at -Cape Maria Van Diemen, Auckland and Tauran.ga this morning, but elsewhere along tiie East Coast conditions were overcast. The barometric pressure at all points was rising. Slight to fresh southerly breezes predominated and the sea generally was smooth to moderate, with rough conditions at East Cape and Castlepoint. The temperatures were cooler than yesterday, a reading of 5(3 degrees at Opotiki being the maximum. Other readings were: Tauran.ga, 55, Auckland. 54, Gisborne and Napier 50, and Wellington, 49. Midday Forecast General situation: An anticyclone of moderate intensity covers the Dominion, but an extensive depression has moved on to the western Tasman Sea. „ - Forecast: Moderate to fresh southerly winds later decreasing, further showers but improving slnwiv from (he south.
