TENNIS CLUB OPENING (Huruld Correspondent.) Tlie Bartletts Tennis Club officially opened its courts tor play for the season on Saturday. The day, although overcast, remained fine and some good sets were witnessed. Mr. T. A. Walters, chairman of the club, apologised for the absence of Mr. W. L. Bell, the president, and called on Mr. L. Cooper, Gisborne, the patron, to formally open the courts. After declaring the courts open for play, Mr. Cooper asked Mrs. Bell to play the first ball.

Afternoon tea was served by the ladies’ committee.

Among the visitors were Mesdames French, Breigan, Cameron, Bushnell and McAra, sen. (Wharerata); Misses Whiteford and Todd.

The players included Mesdames Walters, Ching, Bell, Muir, Smith, I-libberd, Carswell. Grieve,, and G. McAra (Wharerata), Misses French (2), P. Ching. and J. ‘Bushnell.

Miss L. H. Whiteford returned to Bartletts at the week-end after spending a few days in Gisborne. Mr. and Mni R. Cameron and Heather, leave to-day for Tikiwhata, where they will reside. Mr. Cameron lhasi been appointed timekeeper. position rendered vadant by Company Sergeant-Major A. J. Clarkson, being required to leave for the military camp at Trentham.,
