STANDARD MAXIMUM

LONDON BUTTER PRICES LIMIT OF 145/- FOR ALL TEMPORARY SHORTAGE (Reed. Sept. 26, 9 a.m.) LONDON, Sept. 25. The maximum butter price has been revised. All kinds of English, Empire and Continental are now 145 s per cwt., ex store, and the retail price is Is 7d per lb.

When rationing is introduced, consumers, will receive a definite amount of butter and margarine.

A’ temporary shortage is ascribed to a diminution of Continental supplies and a dislocation of shipments from other sources.

The next few days will show whether one standard'maximum price is workable or desirable.

The last advice regarding London butter prices was on September 11, when the New Zealand Dairy Board reported that the price for New Zealand butter had been maintained at 124 s to 1255, or approximately the level necessary for the payment of the guaranteed price in New Zealand last season.

If New Zealand butter reaches the standard maximum of 145 s per cwt. indicated above, the increase on the previously quoted rate will be equal to approximately 21d per lb., f.o.b. The guaranteed price was based on an f.o.b. value of 14.89 d per Jb. last season, and 145 s per cwt. in London will be equal to 17.48 d, f.0.b., New Zealand.
