South Island Wedding

Christie—Douglas To Live in Gisborne A wedding of interest both in Hawke’s Bay and Central Otago was solemnised in St. Paul's Church, Arrowtown, when Helen Clare, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Douglas, Arrowtown, was married to Archibald, second son of Mr. and MrS. A. Christie, Havelock North. Miss Douglas has been on the teaching staff of lona College, Havelock North, for the past two years, and Mr. A. Christie is a popular former resident of Havelock North and now of Gisborne. The Rev. J. C. Fussell officiated at the ceremony, Mr. R. E. Romans presiding at the organ. As she entered the church with her father, the bride made a lovely picture, her gown being of magnolia satin fashioned on Empire lines, with a bateau-shapecl neck forming a soft cowl in front, long sleeves and a train edged with Valenciennes lace. Her beautifully embroidered tulle veil was arranged from a coronet of tiny orange blossom buds, and she carried a bouquet of cream lilies, camellias and maidenhair fern.

Miss Jessie Reid attended as bridesmaid, wearing a beautiful frock of chartreuse-green self-patterned taffetas. The heart-shaped neckline was finished with narrow pleating, Which also edged the short puffed sleeve? and softly Hared skirt. In her hair she wore a spray of freesias and pink camellias, and her bouquet Was of pink camellias, mauve anemones and maidenhair fern.

The flower-girl, Miss Patricia Rowe, cousin of the bride, was attired in a long green frock similar to that of the bridesmaid. A spray of flowers adorned her hair and she carried a posy to match. The best man was Mr. Graham Douglas, brother of the bride. Mr. D. R. Rowe acted as usher. After the ceremony a reception wa? held at “Ayrbum.” The guests were received by Mrs. J. 11. Douglas, whose model gown was of navy-blue georgette. Mrs. Douglas was assisted by the bridegroom’s mother, Mrs. A. Christie, who wore a smart ensemble of navy blue crepe romaine. For travelling the bride chose a dark brown tailored suit, with maizecoloured jumper, tan hat and tan accessories.

The future home of Mr. and Mrs. Christie will be At GiSbdrrie.
