THEFT ALLEGED
REMAND GRANTED POSTAL PACKET INVOLVED (Sprc-inl to Hus lloiahl.) WAIROA, this day. Charged that on or about July L 1939. and between that date and September 17 at Kopuawhara he did steal divers sums of money totalling Lb, the property of the' and also that on or about July 3 at Kopuawhara he did steal a. postal packet containing £2 10s ill money, tlie nroperty of the Postmaster-Gen-eral, a man aged 22, whose name was suppressed, appeared before Mi. J. Corkill, J.P., in the Wairoa Police Court on Saturday. The accused was represented by Mr. C. R. Sainsbury. Detective Mason, Napier, asked for a remand until October 2', stating that the accused was only arrested on Friday and further inquiries were to be made.
The remand was granted. Mr. Sainsbury made an application for bail. Detective Mason asked that it be made fairly substantial. Bail was fixed in the sum of £IOO with one surety of a similar amount, and the accused was ordered to report twice a week to the police.
