The question of the hours of opening arid closing of retail shops m Wairoa was the subject of considerable discussion at a meeting ot the Wairoa Retailers’ Association. After several suggestions had been made, Mr. A. J. Bennett, gave notice to move at the next meeting that the opening' and closing hours of shops be 8.45 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. and that they close at 8.30 p.m. on the late night, which will be Friday. The alteration in the half-day to Saturday will be observed from October 7. The chairman, Mr. R. At present some firms closed their premises at 5 p.m., while others closed at 5.30 p.m. , “We all realise that as far as the chamber is concerned it is closely connected with the business of the town,” stated the chairman when asking that delegates from the association be appointed to the council of the Wairoa Chamber of Commerce. The chairman, the secretary, Mr. R. A. Maclcay, and Mr. C. Watson were appointed. It was decided that it be a recommendation to the committee that the Borough Council be approached with a view to submitting a scheme ot community lighting for the town. Reference to the dog nuisance in the town was made by the chairman, who moved that the Borough Council be written to asking what measures had been taken to combat the nuisance as the retailers had been put to considerable annoyance.
