SECURITY BENEFITS

‘MONEY SPENT UNWISELY’ COMPLAINT IN WAIAPU RESTRICTIONS IMPOSED (Special to the Herald.) TE ARAROA, this day. Action is to be taken by the Social Security Department to -see that benefits, particularly arrears of benefits, paid to natives will be ; spent wisely.

This statement was made in a letter from the department" to t(re Waiapu Hospital Board, which held, a meeting in Te Araroa this week The board previously had drawn the attention ol the department to eases in which arrears ol benefits to natives had been spent unwisely.

“Steps already have been ‘ taken to minimise a recurrence of such conditions,” the department's letterstated-

“Where a large amount is to be paid in future an agent will be appointed to administer the amount for the advantage of tlve beneficiary and any dependants.

“If in any case it is established that the monthly instalments-also are not spent in a wise manner, .the department will consider the appointment of nrr agent, on submission of all relevant information.'’ ,
