CRICKET TOUR OFF

ENGLISH WOMEN'S TEAM (Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. The New Zealand and Australian tour of the English women’s cricket team, planned to take place in February next year as part of the centennial celebrations, has been cancelled because of the international situation. The secretary of the New Zealand Women’s Cricket Council has received the following cablegram from the English Women’s Cricket Association: “Regret international conditions make tour impossibility. Trust it is a pleasure deferred, but our country needs us.” Three matches were to have been played in New Zealand —a test against a New Zealand team at Wellington, against the North Island at Auckland, and against the South Island at Christchurch.
