GOOD SEASON AHEAD

TENNIS CLUB PROSPECTS ELECTION OF OFFICERS M ETROPOLITAN AI EE TING Confidence that the forthcoming season would be one of outstanding achievement was expressed by members of the Metropolitan Tennis Club at the annual meeting, held this week. Mr. Max Krebs presided over a large attendance of members and intending members.

The annual report showed that the club was in a good financial position and that its numerical strength was a; a pleasing figure. The loss through transfer of the secretary, Mr. Max Stevens, during the past year was referred to and a motion expressing the thanks of the ciub for the work done by Mr. Stevens was placed on record. Prior to the election of officers the acting-secretary, Mr. A. To.ve, urged that the duties of secretary and treasurer should be carried out by lady members of the club, pointing out that in view of the serious nature of the international situation it was possible that all eligible men would be called up for defence purposes. Should this position arise it would mean that the ladies would be called upon to carry out the executive work of the club. To enable the ladies to gain some knowledge of the duties of the secretary and the treasurer he urged that lady members of the club be appointed to these positions. Election of Officers This suggestion was adopted, ana officers for the season were elected as follows: —Club captains, Mrs. Thom, ladies, and Mr. R. J. Quinn, men; executive, Mesdames J. I-leeney, Henderson and Hankey, Messrs. F. Gavin. A. Toye, and M. Krebs; hon. auditor, Mr. Dodge; hon. secretary. Miss M. Dunfoy; hon. treasurer, Miss L. Linton. Mr. Toye reported that the work of relaying the courts had been carried out during the winter months, the work being under the supervision of Mr. R. Burdett. An increase in membership during the coming year was anticipated and for this reason the club was sparing no expense in the matter of bringing the courts into line with the best playing surfaces in Gisborne.

It was decided to leave the subscriptions at the same rate as last season.
