RISES IN TAXATION

NEW SOUTH WALES PLANS l relief (Heed. Sept. 21. 3 p.m.l SYDNEY, Sept. 21. Details of increased taxation for unemployment relief and social services were announced by the New South Wales Treasurer, Mr. A. Richardson, in the Legislative Assembly. The new rates operate as from October 1, and will bring the total taxation in this financial year for unemployment relief to £8,442,000. The amounts payable will be substantially increased for every class ot wage-earner. Single persons, formerly exempt on wages not exceeding £3 weekly, must now pay the tax if they earn £2 or more. In addition to the increases in the wages tax, the Government proposes to increase the income tax, company tax and probate tax.
