QUEEN CARNIVAL

WAIROA TO CARRY ON DECISION OF COMMITTEE (Special to Uie Herald.) WAIROA, this day. At a meeting of the general committee on Monday night it was decided after some discussion to carry on with the Wairoa queen carnival activities. The secretary, Mr. J. Woolf, who had been instructed by the previous meeting to inquire into the position, presented his report. He had sounded the various queen committees and reported that there seemed to be a general desire to carry on, though some were experiencing difficulties due to the present conditions. P.W.D. Candidate The Public Works Department candidate’s campaign was being carried on with enthusiasm, and additional dommitteies werte being formed at Nos. 1 and 2 camps, while a public meeting was to be held on Thursday to Miss Foley. A successful dance had been held last. Friday, at Tuai County Indications from the county showed that the campaign was going with a swing, and reports from various districts indicated that things were back to normal. Dances will be held at Opotiki, Ruakituri, Clydebank, Tiniroto, and Ardkeen, whilst prelimin ary work had been done at Awamate, Nuhaka, Frasertown, and Mohaka. Other Committees No official pronouncement was made from the business committee, which had not yet met. It was anounced that the citizens’ committee was willing to carry on. A message was received from the Maori candidate’s committee that it was prepared to carry on provided the closing date was extended. The general feeling of the meeting was that in view of the circumstances, some extensions probably would be necessary. v It was decided Jo appoint a small committee to control the queen carnival' and kindred activities from the general committee, the following being appointed: Messrs. H. L. Marker, B. G. Signall, H. H. O’Loughlen, W. T. Peet, C. V. Chamberlain, and G. B. Powell.
