NEW ITALIAN ENVOY
AMBASSADOR IN LONDON AM ERTCAN CONJECTURE (Reed. Sept. 20, 9 a.m.) ROME, Sept. 19. Signor Giuseppe Bastianini, Italian Under-Secretarv of Foreign Affairs has been appointed Ambassador to London. The Rome correspondent of the New York Times says that the appointment of Signor L. Bastianini as Italian Ambassador to Britain, is regarded as the clearest indication that not only is Italy determined to remain neutral in war, but also to remain friendly with Britain.
The Roma correspondent of the New York Herald-Tribune, says it .s significant that Signor Bastianini wa.\mbassador to Poland for four years. His appointment indicates no sympathy with the latest aggression. No doubt Italy is apprehensive Russia’s westward move carrying with it the possibility of the rebirth of the dream of a pan-slav Balkans.
