INCREASED PATRONAGE

MUNICIPAL BUSES RESTRICTION ON PETROL “The petrol restrictions during the week ended September 9 resulted in increased patronage,” reported the bus manager, Mr. K. G. Ball, to "the Gisborne Borough Council last night, when reporting on the operation of the municipal buses for the fortnight ended September 14. Bus earnings for the period averaged 13.14 d per mile, one of the highest figures achieved to date, the average for the corresponding period last year being 12.73 d. Passengers carried totalled 29,103, and 5981 miles were covered, compared with 25,100 passengers and 5895 miles a year ago. Cr. De Costa suggested that during the period of 'restriction on the use of petrol the Mangapapa buses should run up Mary street and round Winter street back to Ormond road. — The matter was referred to the bus manager.
