FUEL ECONOMY AIM

REVIEW OF LICENSES ROAD FREIGHT SERVICES (Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, this day. The four district Transport Licensing Authorities have been authorised by the Minister of Transport, the Hon. R. Semple, to hold public hearings to review transport licenses issued for the conduct of services parallel to the railways, with the object of economising in petrol.

“I have directed the licensing authorities to carry out these reviews,’’ stated Mr. Semple, "in accordance with the provisions of the transport legislation because while it is not desired to take any steps that might unduly disrupt national production and trade, it is felt that anything in the way of wasteful usage of petrol should be avoided while we are at war.

"I would like to assure any of the operators affected that any alterations made in their services will be for the duration of the war period, and that a further review will lie made when hostilities cease."
