FOUR MEN INJURED
DELAYED EXPLOSION FAULTY FUSE BLAMED CP«r Prows Associntion.) PAHIATUA, this day. Four men were injured by flying fragments of papa when a delayed charge exploded at Makuri Gorge yesterday morning. G. Ancell, works foreman, suffered cracked ribs and a cut on the head, C. Dinnan received bruises and abrasions to the face and head, T. Chamberlain bruises on the throat, and B. Lee bruises on the leg. All received medical attention. Messrs. Lee and Dinnan were admitted to the Pahiatua Hospital and the others were sent home. The condition of all was reported to be satisfactory this morning. Mr. Ancell received the worst of the explosion. He was struck on the chest by a lump of papa and was thrown off the road Oft. down a bank. The charge tailed to explode. After waiting an hour the men were about to investigate. Mr. Ancell arrived on the scene and was questioning the men when the charge exploded 16ft. away. The accident is • believed to have been due to a faulty fuse.
