DOMINION SPECIAL FORCE
VOLUNTEERS TOTAL 11,442 HIGH PERCENTAGE FIT (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. Up to 8 o’clock last night, 11,442 men had enlisted in the special force now being formed for service within New Zealand or overseas. So far G 933 men have been medically examined and the result, expressed in percentages, is: Fit 571, temporarily unfit 29, oermanently unfit 13A.
In view of the very high standard of fitness required for this force, these figures are held to be very satisfactory, and it is pointed out that the majority of the temporarily unfit men, who have been so classed because of dental defects, will be classed as fit when their teeth liave been attended to. Details of the enlistments are: — Northern district, 4473. Central district, 4104. Southern district, 28G5. Medically examined: North, 15G7; Central, 3237; South, 2129.
Fit: North, 9(57; Central, 17G3; South, 1244.
Temporarily unfit: North, 46G; Ce: tral, 1003; South, 5G4.
Permanently unfit: North, 134; Central, 481: South, 321.
