Last Night’s Forecast General situation.- —An extensive anticyclone covers the Tasman and New' Zealand, while a depression is moving south-eastwards oil' Tasmania. Forecast.—Winds light to moderate and variable over the North Island, with southerlies predominating at lirst, moderate northerlies prevailing from Cook Strait southwards, freshening at times. Seas: In New Zealand waters, rather rough south of Farewell Soit and about Foveaux Strait; slight to moderate elsewhere. Eastern Tasman: Fresh to strong north to west winds and rough' seas south about latitude 40. light winds and slight to moderate seas to the north. Weather: Continuing fine and settled over most of the country with mild day and cold night temperatures, some rain probable, however, in faf south-west, scattered falls possibly extending to Westland and Southland.

Blue skies were reported from the Bay of Plenty to Napier, but conditions were cloudy elsewhere. Light westerly winds prevailed.' The barometer was steady. Temperatures at !) a.m. were: —Auckland 54 degrees, Tauranga GO, Opotiki 52, East Cape and Gisborne 53, Napier 48, and Wellington 52. Seas were smooth to slight in the north and rough in the south. Midday Forecast General Situation: An extensive anticyclone is centred io the north while a series of weak westerly depressions is passing in the south. Forecast: Light north-westerly winds, bnl freshening somewhat. Weather: Fine and mild, slight to moderate seas.
