PIGEON FLYING
CENTRAL SOCIETY SATURDAY’S FAST RAGE High velocities were established by the birds taking part in the Poverty Bay Homing Pigeon Society’s race on Saturday from Takapau, an airline distance of 13G miles. The race was a most successful one and was flown under excellent condition, a strong tail wind assisting the birds considerably. The winning 'bird was from T. Crosby’s loft and it clocked in at 1.32 p.m., having covered the distance in 2hr 47min., a velocity of 1404.9yds per minute. This was the second race of Die old bird series, and the last event also was won by T. Crosby, whose bird on that occasion set a velocity of 1247.4yds per minute. In the Takapau race 12 lofts were represented and there were in all GO birds in the competition. The first six birds home were.—T. Crosby’s bird. 1404.9yds per minute, 1; A. O’Neill's bird, 1401.4yds per minute, 2; J. Morrison's bird, 1399.8yds per minute, 3; C. Waldock’s Red Chief, 1381.8yds per minute, 4; D. Somervill’s bird, 1381.3yds per minute, 5; C Waldock’s bird, 1378.1yds per minute, G: J. McLean’s bird, 1375.9yds per minute, 7; J. McLean’s bird, 13G0.1 yds per minute, 8. Other lofts represented were those of J. Cunningham, R. Hall, M. Quinn, M. Cook. R. Davis, A. McLauchlan and M. Roydes.
