MINISTERIAL VISIT BIG WORK IX SHORT TIME WELFARE OF THE .HEX (lVr Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. Visits ol' inspection to camps and military depots in and about Wellington' were paid on Saturday by the Acting-Prime Minister, the Hon. P. Fraser, and the Minister of Defence, the Hon. F. Jones, accompanied by the Chief of the General Staff, MajorGeneral J. E. Duigan, the Hon. W. E. Barnard, M.P. Mr. J. A. Lee, M.P., Mr. J. Hargest, M.P.. Mr. C. A. Berendsen and Lieut.-Colonel W. G. Stevens.
The object of tire visits was to sec the preparations made for defence in the city and for the reception and training of men called up for that purpose and for the local portion of the special force now being raised.
The Ministers everywhere paid particular attention to such matters as accommodation, clothing, bedding, food, washing and sanitary facilities, and at the conclusion of the visits both expressed themselves satisfied that all phases of the work were well in hand and were being most creditably carried out.
They said they were much impressed by the enormous amount of work accomplished in such a short time, and were confident all the necessary steps were being taken to ensure the comfort and welfare of the men who had so promptly placed their services at the disposal of their country. _ Some men had had a difficult time during the first few days, when the initial stages of mobilisation were in progress, but these difficulties had been rapidly overcome, and excellent camping provision was being made now.
