SUBMARINES ELUDED
CONVOY VESSEL TANKER’S CREW RESCUED (Elec. Tei. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Reed. Sept. 15, 3 p.m.) LONDON, Sept. 14. A convoy vessel bound for Scotland successfully eluded two submarines about to attack it, and arrived safely in port. The movements of the submarines were detected some distance from the convoy. Escort vessels took effective action.
It is reported from New York that the steamer Manhattan, who was reported earlier .to be deviating her course to pick up the crew of the tanker British Influence, has now sent a radio message that the Indabaake had rescued survivors of the British Influence. The message did not re■eal whether the vessel had been torpedoed.
The owners have advised that ail are safe from the Ropner liner F.irby after being submarined.
