EMERGENCY COUNCIL
INDUSTRIAL CONTROL WIDE POWERS GRANTED JOINT REPRESENTATION (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. Tiie Industrial Emergency Council Regulations gazetted last night provide for the appointment by tiie Minister of Labour of an Industrial Emergency Council, comprising such number of representatives of the employers and workers as he may deem fit.
The Minister shall appoint the chairman. The function of the council will be to inquire into and advise the Minister during the period of war emergency on any matte*.' referred by him to the cour.:.* or on any other matters arising out of the state of emergency and pertaining to his office.
Power is given for the council, on the direction of the Minister, to enter the business premises of any employer and to make such inquiries as it may deem necessary, and may require any person or industrial union or association of employers or workers to furnish information or evidence. The Minister may, on the recommendation of the council, add to its number for any special purpose.
