Mr. H. A. Hopkins, supervisor for the Tairawhiti District Pig Council, left yesterday for Wellington. The appointment of Mr. J. P. Rutherford as deputy of the Controller and Auditor-General was formally gazetted last, night.
Mr. D. G. Beattie, Opotiki, is visiting Gisborne. Mr. Beattie was-form-erly supervisor for the old Bay of Plenty-Poverty Bay Pig Council, and is now manager of the Opotiki Dairy Association’s pig farm. Advice has been received by relatives in Gisborne that Miss Shirley Ormerod, who lately has been studying at the Paris School of Designing, has undertaken war work in London, and recently passed her mechanics’ test for appointment as an ambulance driver. She is attached to an ambulance unit at Hounslow, a London suburb.
Mr. T. French, sole selector for the Poverty Bay Rugby Union and a selector for the North Island Rugby fifteen, will be in Auckland to-mor-row to witness the Auckland-Well-ington Rugby match. The North Island team will be announced following this game. In the absence of Mr. French, the management of the Poverty Bayteam for the match with Wairoa tomorrow will be in the hands of Mr. P. C. Edmondson.
