Back lo Normal Wellington grocers experienced an abnormally busy period last week in supplying the demands of householders anxious to procure certain lines of foodstuffs, but it was stated on Tuesday that business was returning to normal.
N.Z. Air Force Ensign . Public notification was given in the Gazette issued last night of the institution of the Royal New Zealand Air Force ensign. This will comprise the ensign of the Royal Air Force defaced by the addition of the letters “N.Z.” superimposed in white upon the red roundel thereof.
Summer Time Starting-
Official notification (hat summer time will commence at 2 a.m. on Sunday, September 24. and continue until 2 a.m. on Sunday, April 28, 1940, was contained in the Gazette issued last night. The time will, therefore, be advanced 30 minutes as from 2 a.m. on September 24. Registration of Aliens
A considerable amount of confusion has resulted in the work . of registering aliens in the Napier police district owing to the fact that New Zealand-born women are not aware that if they are married to aliens they must register as aliens, At present there are well over 200 aliens registered at Napier.
Rushed by Cow A station hand, Mr. Thomas Pinter, aged 28, employed on Mr. 11. B. Livingston's property, Manutuke, was rushed by a cow last evening and pushed over a bank. In his fall he suffered a further injury to his knee, which was hurt tin a mishap several years ago, but lie was not harmed by the cow. Mr. Finder was able to walk to the homestead, whence he was taken to the Cook Hospital for treatment. His condition to-day was satisfactory.
Sly-grog Selling
Four charges of sly-grog selling and one of supplying liquor to a native were preferred against Henry Stanley McCormack when he appeared before Mr. J. H. Luxford, S.M., in the Police Court in, Whakatane. The accused pleaded guilty to three • charges and not guilty to one. A charge of selling liquor was dismissed, • and on the charge of supplying liquor McCormack was convicted and fined £ls. On one charge of selling liquor the accused was convicted and fined £25 and costs. On the other two charges McCormack was convicted and discharged.—Special.
