Last Night’s Forecast
General Situation: Pressure remains very low to tire south-east, while an intense anti-cyclone extends from Australia on to the North Tasman Sea. The situation appears to be developing into one of the westerly type. Forecast: Winds south-west to west predominating, but some local northwesterlies east of the ranges and in the south, moderate to strong generally. Seas: In New Zealand waters, rough north of Wanganui and on the East Coast between Kaikoura and East Cape, but moderating in tlie latter area; elsewhere moderate, but rising somewhat south of Wanganui. Eastern Tasman Sea: Fresh to strong westerly to south-westerly winds and rough seas. Weather: Some showers in the North Island, more especially from the King Country northwards; otherwise fair to fine; becoming unsettled later, however, in Westland and the far south; numerous frosts tonight, but temperatures rising slowly to-morrow. _
To-day’s North Island Report An improvement in barometric pressure was noted at most reporting stations to-day. Temperatures were cooler at 9 a.m.. Auckland topping the list with 5G degrees, Cape Maria van Diemen having 55, Tiritiri 54, East Cape 53, and Gisborne 52, and others ranging down to 43 at Opotiki. Light breezes, mainly from the southwest were general, and all stations i except Auckland and'Wellington had clear skies, or blue skies with passing clouds. Visibility was excellent at all points, and seas were slight to moderate. Midday Forecast General situation: New Zealand lies between a deep depression to the south-east and an anticyclone is centred over the north-west Tasman Light to moderate and variable winds, occasional showers still possible but weather mainly fine Temperatures: Cool with some Lusts.
