RETURN TO NORMAL

WELLINGTON BUSINESS REACTION TO HOSTILITIES (Par Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. Though there was a marked falling off in business in Wellington for the first two or three clays after the announcement of war, trade has picked up since then and is now back to normal, according to the managers of firms.

The general attitude of customers seems to be that it is their duty to carry on with normal activities as much as possible.

Picture theatres, which are usually one of the first types of business to suffer during a falling off in trade, are attracting normal business. For several days after the announcement of war, however, there were smaller audiences than usual. For a time many persons were spending the evening at home listening to the news sessions, but now they prefer to go out for relaxation.

According to one theatre manager, most theatres are endeavouring to provide a programme which will enable patrons to forget for a while the international situation, and some films have been withdrawn voluntarily by exhibitors because they were considered unsuitable at present.
