GIRL GUIDE COMMITTEE SATISFACTORY REPORTS (Herald Correspondent.) The annual meeting of the Manntuke Girl Guide Committee was held at the mission house on Tuesday, Mrs. T. Preston presiding.

Very satisfactory reports of the year’s work were read by the Guide captain. Miss D. M. Taylor, and the acting Brown Owl, Miss E. Buscke. Mrs. Preston complimented them on the work done, the progress being evident by the number of badges worn by the Guides. She also complimented the officers for the increase in the number in the Brownie pack. Mrs. Preston was elected president again, and Miss E. Newman secretary and treasurer.

During the afternoon the committee and those present were given the opportunity of seeing the Guides and Brownies at work' and the presentation of two domestic badges to the Guides.

Arrangements were made for the thirteenth annual birthday party on November 28. With a view to helping in any war emergency, it was reported that the Guide captain, one exBrown Owl, one acting Brown Owl, and two senior Guides were attending the ambulance classes at. Matawhero. Maori Mothers’ Union

A well-attended meeting of the Manutuke Maori Mothers’ Union was held recently, with Mrs. Keiha presiding, An important discussion followed

on how mothers can help in the war. All members expressed a keen desire to help in any way. It was decided to form a sewing circle to assist in making .necessary garments for hospital or war needs. It was suggested also that a special prayer for peace should be translated into Maori and copies placed in every home. Personal Item Miss Morgan, Wellington, who has been accepted for Maori mission work, has been the guest of the mission ladies for a while, before taking her appointment at Ruatoki North.
