WAINUI SURF CLUB
BEACH PATROL WORK AN IMPORTANT TASK An appeal to members of the Wainui Surf Life Saving Club to carry on the work of patrolling Wainui Beach during the swimming season and to give their full support to the activities of the club despite the unsettled conditions brought about by the war was made by the chairman, Mr. S. W. Bruce, at last evening’s annual meeting of the club. . The chairman declared that the task was a most important one and as long as patrols were available it should not be dropped. There was a good attendance at the meeting, and officials for the ensuing year were elected as follows: —Patron, Mr. C. Matthews: president, Mr. G. A. Nieholls; vice-oresidents, Dr. H. A. Angcll Messrs. D. W. Coleman, M.P., P. Foxley, L. Field, D. E. Chrisp, C. W. Muir, L. G. Barton, E. R. Beckett, R. J. Kerridge, B Dallas, T. J. Harris, F. V. Carpenter, H. E. Cave. I. J. Quigley, L. W. Cooper and E. W. Forrest; hon, solicitor, Mr. G. J. Jeune; hon. auditor, Mr. N. A. Bennett: hon. medical officers, Drs. 11. A. Angcll and E. E. Brown; club captain, Mr. S. W. Bruce; vice-captain, Mr. C. F. Smith; management committee, Messrs. J. R. Beckett. D. F. Muir, IF B. Sinclair, J. W. Gandell, N. A. Williamson and D. B. Blackwell. As there were no nominations for the position of hon. secretary and treasurer the position was held open and the committee was given power to fill the vacancy when oppoi'tunity ofieicd. The following were elected members of the club:—Active: Messrs. V. Hale, R. A. Rigney, J. T. Dodgshun, B. G. Piesse, G. F. Heald, and J. S. P. Dempsey. Reserve active: Mr. G. C. Baddesley. Associate: Messrs. A. G. Banfickl and A. 11. Dc Costa. Several proposed amendments to the constitution of the club were confirmed. , , T „ Alter a discussion on the New Zealand championships and a tour of New Zealand planned by the Australian surf team the meeting closed with a vote of thanks to the chan.
