ATHENIA SURVIVOR

SISTER OF GISBORNE MAN Mrs. C. E. Carter, announced in yesterday’s Herald as being one of the New Zealand survivors of the s.s. Aihenia, which was sunk on the first day of the war, is a sister of Mr. P. Schwabe, Gisborne. - Mrs. Carter was described in the cabled message as a resident of Palmerston North; her home is in Napier, but she was staying for a time in Palmerston North before embarking for her trip overseas. The reading of the news in last night’s Herald was the first intimation Mr. Schwabe had that his sister was a passenger in the Athcnia, although he was aware that she was to leave England at approximately that time.
