YOUNG FARMER SHEARERS SPECIAL POINTS PRIZE RED CROSS FUND Arrangements for the Poverty Bay A. and P. Show to be held early in November were carried a further stage at a meeting of the A. and P. Association’s general committee today, the president, Mr. Roland Graham, being in the chair. Mr. G. P. M. Whitham wrote accepting his appointment to the committee. Mr. L. Jex-Blake was granted three months’ leave of absence.
Mr. R. E. Alexander, veterinary supervisor for the Live Stock Division, Gisborne, was appointed hon. veterinary surgeon to the association.
Motions of condolence were passed with the relatives of the late Mrs. G. M. Reynolds and Mr. E. Ellmers.
The district secretary of the Young Farmers' Clubs, Mr. E. M. Bates, wrote urging that a class should be established at the Show for club members who undertook shearing work. —The secretary, Mr. W. E. Chamberlain, reported that he had discussed the matter with the president, who had agreed to donate a prize of £2 2s for the young farmer securing most points in shearing, and it was agreed also that a Young Farmers’ Club member who was competing in the open class would be permitted to enter at half the usual rate. —This action was confirmed, and Mr. G. V. Smith, on behalf of the Young Farmers' Clubs, thanked the president for his action. Championship Ribbons It was reported that a license to import championship ribbons from Australia would not be granted, and the meeting decided to make inquiries in New Zealand for the supply of suitable ribbons.
A request was received from the Gisborne Young Farmers’ Club for permission to hold a weight-estimating competition, at the Show. —It was reported that the president had a bullock which had been grazing on Mr. I-I. G. Smith’s property and which Mr. Graham intended donating to the association for an estimating competition for the association. It was agreed to suggest to the Young Farmers’ Club that it should conduct the competition in aid of the Red Cross fund.
