ELECTION UNLIKELY

CITY TRAMWAY BOARD TERM MAY BE EXTENDED (Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. It is now unlikely that the election for the Christchurch Tramway Board set down for November next will be held. Both parties concerned, the Labour Party and the Citizens’ Association have agreed that it would not be in the public interest to hold an election during a time of crisis. As the parties are agreed, it now remains for the Government to take the necessary legislative action to postpone the election and to extend the period of membership of the present personnel of the board.

Tlie present members of the board are Mr. J. Mathison, chairman, the Hon. J. K. Archer and Messrs. R. M. MacFarlane, H. E. Denton, G. Manning. E. Parlane, J. Barr, W. J. Walter and A. A. McLachlan. With exception of Mr. Walter, Independent, and Mr. McLachlan, Citizens’ Association, all other members belong to the Labour Party.

Owing to his appointment as president of the Assessment Court, Mr. McLachlan will' not retain his seat on the board and, in accordance with an agreement reached by two parlies, lie will be replaced by a member of the Citizens’ Association.
