RHODES SCHOLARS
SUSPENSION OF AWARDS N.Z. STUDENTS’ DILEMM A (Por Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. When war broke out the authorities at Oxford University sent a cable message to New Zealand to the ellect that Rhodes scholarships were suspended, but when they heard that New Zealand's pair, Messrs. Berendsen and Weston, were already on their way Home, further cablegrams were sent leaving it to the scholars or their parents’ discretion whether they should proceed or return to New Zealand.
If a decision is made to complete the voyage, the authorities at Oxford will look after the scholars. In the meantime communication is being established with the two scholars as far as circumstances will allow, but as yet it is not known definitely whether they will be returning or not.
There is similar uncertainty about the holders of other scholarships at Cambridge who recently left lor England.
