STEADY RESPONSE MADE N ATION ALI TIE S VAR Y CERTIFICATES AVAILABLE Aliens who have not as yet placed their names on the register of aliens, as they are required to do, are advised that this is the last week in which they will be able to fulfil this regulation and are warned that this registration must be carried out. All .aliens, including persons who are not of British birth, whether naturalised or not, are required _to call at the Gisborne police station to complete their registration. Persons who are not naturalised will require to register as aliens, while aliens who have been naturalised are required to call at the police station and produce their naturalisation papers. Children of alien parents, under the age of 1C years, are not required to register tout, at the age of IC, they are required to make the statutory declaration Certificates Available Registration certificates are available at the Gisborne police station. Alien waterside or shipping workers are warned that they will not be permitted to work on the wharf or on 'ships unless they have secured from the police the necessary permit to do so.

The emergency measure providing for the registration points out that naturalised aliens whose former country is now at war with Great Britain are required to register.

The staff at the Gisborne police station has been kept busy with the completion of the registration and the alien members of the community have not been slow in fulfilling their obligations in this respect. _ A wide range of nationalities is being covered and naturalised aliens, with memories of previous registration fresh in their minds, have come to the station armed with all the particulars relative to their naturalisation.

Several of the visitors have been unable to write their signatures on the registration papers and these resort to the finger print impression in lieu Of signature.
