“LIVES FOR LIES!”

BERLIN APPEAL BRITISH FORCES BROADCAST IN ENGLISH (Kloc. Tol. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Reed. Sept. 11, Noon.) LONDON, Sept. 9. A Berlin short-wave radio broadcast, in English, has been couched as follows: — “Just a moment, British soldiers! Are you willing to lay down your lives for a pack of lies? German soldiers admired your pluck and courage in the last war; now a handful of politicians say that the Poles are your dearest friends, for whom you must be willing to die, although the British Empire is not threatened.” Unconfirmed reports from Lille state that large numbers of soldiers, mostly of Austrian and Czech origin, have crossed the Belgian frontier from Germany, and have been interned. It is reported that 250 have arrived at Liege, and many already are at Brussels.
