MEETING ADJOURNED PETROL RESTRICT! OTS In view of the restrictions on the use of petrol the September meeting of the East Coast Rabbit Board, which was set down for this afternoon, has been adjourned and the members of' the board wish to arrange a more suitable date, enabling them to make one trip to town a month. Such an arrangement will make it possible for them to fulfil other engagements and transact the maximum amount of business possible in the one day. The monthly reports have been made available for publication. Northern District “The following country has been worked during the past month in my district," reported Mr. H. A. Burgess, inspector, from Whakatane: — “Ruatoki country, Owhakatoro and clearings towards Te Teko, Te Teko country mostly around Awakeri and the foothills towards the Rangitaiki River, Waiohau and Opoutea, part of Galatea estate and between the two rivers at Murupara.'Pounaua, Matera, Tc Whaiti towards Ngatupahi and Mingan ui.” The inspector reports as follows on the country lie inspected: “Native __ scheme, Whakatane, Mr. Melville's property and the hill country towards Taneatua carried no signs. On looking over the land of Messrs. Kendall and Smith, I saw no fresh indications. Te Teko block, the foothills, and burns around Awakeri were clean, there being- no fresh signs where the rabbits had been caught previously. “On Waiohau, private, Crown and native lands an odd trace was found near the mouth of the Waiohau Creek, but otherwise there were no indications. An odd rabbit was seen near the Kopuriki Creek, but no signs could be found on the country between the two rivers at Murupara, Pounaua and Matera, Te Whaiti, Mingnnui and Ihe country around Te Whaiti carried no indications.
“A rabbit burrow was reported on Mr. John Hope’s property at Moanui, in the Koranga Valley, Matawai, and on investigation I could not find any trace of rabbits.
“Rabbits killed during the month totalled. —Te Teko block, 1; Mr. McDonald's property, 1; native scheme, 1: Waiohau, 1: Galatea estate, Horomanga, 1; Mickie’s canal. 1: hill country, 1; total 7.’’ Southern District Mr. T. R. England, sub-inspector, Wairoa, reported that the following places had been worked in the southern district:— “Messrs. Phillips Bros, A. McKinnon, N. Mackay, and McKinnon Bros’ land, all being found clean. On the Waihua native land one rabbit was cuugiy, and since then no fresh signs have been found. There were n< traces on the Putere or Mohaka Ciown lands, but on the Mohaka m.lhe land two . rabbits were caught. “All Putere settlement and Ferndale were worked and found clean. No further fresh indications have been found on Ruapapa, Cricklewood and Wahanui stations, but another rabbit has been killed on Pihanui. Since then there have been no fresh s.gns. Wai.hi, Parkhurst and Tapui stations were also found clean. “I looked over the properties of Messrs. Horne (top and lower bmeks), Mathicson; Burl: Sharron; Wells and Putere native lands, findmg that country clean. I also inspected a big portion of the MohakCrown and native lands and could lind no fresh signs there. I inspected parts of Wahanui station and Jin' Putere Crown lands, both of which were clean. “On Pihanui I found fresh signs ol a rabbit and one has been killed. 1 covered, too, Te Waikopua (Mr. D. Giynan) and Mr. W. Mogford’s prpperty, both places being clean. During the lambing season the rabbiters are working only in the dry sheep country. “Rabbits were caught during the month as follows:—Mohaka native lands, 2; Waihua native lands, 1; Pihanui, 1; total 4.’’
