ATTACK ON SUBMARINES

DETERMINED EFFORT DRIVING THEM OFF SEAS BRITISH NAVAL POLICY (Klee. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Reed. Sept. 7, 11.30 a.m.) LONDON, Sept. 6. It is announced that British warships have attacked German submarines in several places as the beginning of a determined effort to drive them out of the North Sea, the English Channel and the European Atlantic, following attacks on several British merchantmen.

The Admiralty states it should be realised that it is not always desirable to publish details of destruction or damage to enemy submarines. Therefore, it should not be assumed to no successes had been achieved.

An official bulletin issued at 2.20 a.m. to-day says that three German ships which might have been converted into armed raiders were destroyed in the Atlantic, and the safety of the crews was provided for. German submarines attacked and sank several British merchantmen.

Germany has announced the laying of minefields that have already claimed two neutrals—a Danish fishing boat and a Greek merchantman A North German Lloyd motor ship is reported to have been sunk in mid-Atlantic. It is apparently the third ship to which the Ministry of Information in London referred to earlier.
