GREEN AND GOLD BALL

NUHAKA SUCCESS MISS BROWN QUEEN (Herald Correspondent.) The annual ‘‘Green and Gold Ball held (by the Nuhaka Mutual.lmprovement Association in the L.D.S. Hall was a great success. The hall, supper-room, and stage were beautifully decorated, the whole atmosphere suggesting a night in Hawaii. Congratulations were extended to Mr. and Mrs. W. Christy, head of the organisation, Miss T. Nepia, secretary, and the capable committee for the success achieved. The decorations and effects were in the capable hands of Mrs. E. Te Ngalo, who carried them cut with marked success. The feature of the evening was the crowning of the Green and Gold queen, there being four candidates, Miss Rongo Walker, Whakaki, Miss Lena Brown, Opoutama, Mrs. Ella Hawea, Gleam Girls, M.1.A., Miss Bernie McKenzie, Y.M.M.I.A. Voting took place during the evening, Miss Lena Brown being elected with 2276 votes, with Miss Walker, 1689 votes, runner-up. The crowning of the queen was performed by Mr. R. Steed, amid a bevy* of attendant Hawaiian hula girls, who sang and danced several numbers. A men’s quartet, and two hula dances given by Mrs. J. Te Ngaio, were much appreciated. Mr. J. Hine’s orchestra supplied the dance music, and Mr. D. Nathan acted as M.C. A sumptuous supper was much enjoyed.
