War Heroine’s Appointment
A heroine of the Great War, the Baroness de Serclaes, has been appointed an auxiliary officer in the London Volunteer Ambulance Service, a branch of A.R.P. work, which many women are now joining. For four years the baroness English wife of a Belgian peer, lived in front-line trenches, where with Miss Mairi Chrisholm, she ran an advanced dressing station and an ambulance unit. The two were known as the •‘Women of Pervyse.” The Military Medal, the highest field decoration which women can receive, was presented to the baroness for conspicuous bravery in saving life under fire. She has also been appointed sta-tion-master for the south-western section of the L.V.A.S., and has been largely instrumental in the social organisation of women volunteers.
