STREET TREE PLANTING
WORK IN GISBORNE ONE PROPOSAL DEFERRED Consideration was given at last night's meeting of the Gi.sborne Borough Council to the planting of trees in some of the streets of the town. The works committee recommended the planting of pohutukawas on either side of Salisbury road from Grey street to a point 10 chains west of Roberts road, the council to supply the trees, soil and labour, provided the Beautifying Association provided the guards. Residents of Muir street, Te Hapara had requested the planting of ornamental trees on Ihe western side of the street. The residents offered to supply the trees, if the council provided the guards and the labour for planting. However, in view of the large amount of street planting and beautification work already being undertaken this year, the committee recommended that the request be held over until next season. It was reported to the committee that trees alongside the Awapuni road frontage of Awapuni Reserve and the Gladstone road frontage of the Makaraka Domain were interfering with the power lines. The committee decided to inspect the trees before making a recommendationThe report was adopted.
