SHIP DESERTION CHARGE

FORMER GERMAN SEAMAN REGISTERED AS ALIEN (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, last night. When he visited police headquarters to register as an alien to-day, Rudolf Schmuescr, aged 18 years, well built and smartly dressed, was arrested on a charge of deserting the German steamer Dortmund at Auckland on April 12. His address was given at Glen Alton, Huntly. Later, he appeared at the Police Court and Mr. F. H. Levein, S.M., remanded him in custody until Tuesday, remarking that by then some indication would be available as to what was to be done in respect of Germans.
