ROYAL CHOICE DEAD INTERNALLY INJURED TRAINER 110 LEAND’ S TEAM NATIONAL WINNER RETIRED By "Trenton” Royal Choice, who has recently been trained at Marton by F. McHugh, injured himself internally during a recent gallop and expired last week. A five-year-old gelding by Laughing Prince from the Martian —Equitas mare Martianette, Royal Choice was a half-brother to Martian Chief, Hunting Lodge, and Haere Tonu. He was owned by his breeder, Mr. T. A. Duncan, for whom he won five races and £7OO in stakes when trained by L. G. Morris at Awapuni Promising' Material The horses owned by the estate of the late M. Steinberg are to go into G. Holland’s stable at Ellerslie. With a team consisting of Konneta, Fidelis, Wapaugh and Soap Box, who are to arrive from Riccarton next week, and the two-year-olds tby Musketoon and Lord Warden, respectively, Holland' should have some very promising material with which to signal his return to the ranks of trainers. Golden Miller Retired Golden Miller, winner of the Liverpool Grand National of 1934, has been definitely retired. His wins included five Cheltenham Gold Cups. After his win at Liverpol he took a dislike to Aintree, and, although he started one of the hottest favourites ever known for the 1935 National, he baulked and got rid of his rider. He did the same when he later ran in'the Champion Steeplechase at that meeting. "In the 1936 National he fell, and baulked the following year. That was his last run at Aintree. During his career he was ridden by 10 different jockeys, two being amateurs. He cost Miss Paget 6000gns. and won nearly 30 races Favourable Comment Good opinions have been formed at Randwick of Waterman, the halfbrother by Ringmaster to* Agrion, Waikare and Orelio. He cost Mr. E. J. Watt, .who also owns Waikare, 575 guineas at the Trentham sales, and at that price he was one of the" cheapest of the progeny of Waterwings to be sftld at auction. A Waterwings colt has twice topped the list at the national sales, and Orelio was secured for lOOOgns. Trainer Returns W. J. Wood, who has returned from a brief visit to England, has resumed work at Trentham with Arctic King and Barabbas.
