PETROL PERMITS

POSTAL STAFF BUSY EFFECT ON RUGBY VISITS NO ALTERATION AS YET The restriction governing the purchase of petrol and the issue of the permit? necessary to obtain the ■rationed supplies have iresulted In the staff of the Gisborne Post Office working at top pressure yesterday afternoon and to-day. From the opening hour this morning the office has. been kept on the run to deal with the rush of permit seekers. Users of commercial vehicles have formed the greater part of the applicants and in some instances these have expressed some concern as to how long they will be able to keep their vehicles on the road. Members of the Poverty Bay Rugby Union are concerned as to whether the position will afreet the visit of outside Rugby teams to Gisborne, but fortunately the season is nearly closed and no more than two or three teams are expected to visit Gisborne. One representative team, a Colts fifteen, is scheduled to play in Wairoa on September 16 and on the same date a Wairoa team is to visit Gisborne.

It is thought that the petrol restrictions may have some bearing on whether or not the games will be played, but at present no change in the programme of matches will be made. .

Commencing to-day the Chief Post Office, Gisborne, will be open until 8 p.m. daily for the issuing of licenses to purchase motor-spirits and power kerosene. ,
