DEFENCE OF DEMOCRACY
BRITAIN STANDS FIRM MR. NASH WELCOMED (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. Representatives of political and industrial, Labour and personal friends of the Minister of Finance, the Hon. W. Nash, welcomed him back from England at morning tea on Saturday. The speakers were the ActingPrime Minister, the Hon. P. Fraser, Mr. J. Roberts, president of the Labour Party, and Mr. F. P. Walsh, on behalf of the Federation of Labour. Mr. Fraser expressed appreciation of the difficulties encountered by Mr. Nash in his task at Home and congratulated him on the success achieved in the circumstances. He regretted—Mr. Nash had returned at a lime when war clouds overshadowed the British Commonwealth. This was a time when everybody must .stand shoulder to shoulder in friendship and solidarity with the United Kingdom. Returning ihanks, Mr. Nash said that he was pleased to be back, but was sorry at the state of international affairs. He declared that Britain never had been stronger and was standing firm in defence ol democracy.
