NEW J-CLASS LOCOS FIRST TWO DELIVERED WORK ON MAIN TRUNK (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, this clay. The first two of 30 new generalutility J-class locomotives, which have been ordered from Scotland by the Railway Department, are now in Auckland. The engines, when in full working trim, will weigh 107 tons, compared with 145 tons in the case of the K type, and their length over buffers will be approximately 67ftIt is intended that the afternoon express and Limited express In Wellington will be hauled part of the way by this type of locomotive. The two expresses have for some time been drawn by large K-class engines. The new locomotives are smart in appearance. They ahe semi-stream-lined, and. unlike other locomotives in New Zealand, have a torpedo-shaped boiler front.
