MEMSIE STAKES WIN • HILTON TAKES SPRINT (Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Reed. September 4, 9 a.m.) MELBOURNE, Sept. 3. At the Caulfield races on Saturday the principal event resulted: — Mcmsie Stakes, of £1000; 1 mile and 1 furlong.—Alax, 9.11 (Badger), 1; El Golea, 9.4 (Dewhurst), 2; Ortelle’s Star, 8.13 (Heather), 3. The other starter was Elanage. Ajax led throughout and won, untroubled, by two lengths and a half, with a length and a half between second and third. Elanage was a bad last. Time, 1.58. The two divisions of the Warriston Handicap, for three-year-olds, were won respectively by Skirl and Pure Gold. The latter registered an excellent Derby trial, overwhelming the field in heavy going and winning by two lengths. Ajax has now won £32,500, and has displaced Nightmarch the list of winning racehorses. Whittier Handicap, of £500; 6 furlongs.—Hilton, by Beau Pere— Awaken, 9.4 (Morenmount), 1; Tetreen, 8.9 (A. Reed), 2; Connaru, 8.5 (Heather), 3. Twenty started, including Lynch Law and Prince Quex. A neck; two lengths. Time, 1.155.
