Plug Troubles

OCCASIONALLY' misfiring develops when, a- car which has just completed its running-in.period,is travelling at the higher speeds. This trouble is simply explained. While the ear is new the road speed is kept down to about 30 m.p.h., and this light running means that the engine never really reaches its proper operating temperature. Furthermore, a good deal of oil gets into the combustion chambers, because the piston rings have i not properly bedded into the walls of the cylinders, and this is deposited on the sparking points and in the plug cavities, in the form of carbon, because the engine is not hot enough to burn it away immediately if settles. It follows that an essential part of the complete check given the ear when the running-in period has finished should be the thorough cleaning of the sparking plugs, when the engine will performe to expectations at all speeds.
