MUTTON PRICES ADVANCE BEEF VALUES FIRMER (Par Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. The New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board’s report on the Smithfield market covering the period ended August 31 states: — “Lamb. —Prime quality lamb is firm, with a slight improvement in some grades, but second quality is a ,shade easier owing to heavier supplies. “Mutton.—Wethers and ewes are very firm at advanced prices, owing to light stocks in store and afloat. “Beef. —Frozen beef is firmer on account of better prices for chilled. Chilled beef rates are better this week owing to lighter supplies and a good demand. “Pork—The New Zealand porker pig market is quiet but firm, while baconer pigs are quiet at unchanged values.
“Veal. —Boneless bobby veal supplies are now more plentiful.” The following quotations for frozen meat were those ruling on Thursday, while the chilled beef values are averages for the week and the figures in parentheses are the rates ruling the previous week:— Frozen Mutton New Zealand crossbred wethers and maiden ewes.—4Blb. and under, 5d (sd) • 49 to 561 b., 4Jd (4jjd)'; 57 to 641 b., 43d (43d); 65 to 721 b., 4jjd (4d).
